Top 10 Dive Sites:
Apo Reef is a marine sanctuary rather than an individual dive site, located west of Occidental Mindoro. It is a world famous marine park, frequently published in dive magazines as a place where an extensive wealth of marine life can be found; ranging from great macro photography opportunities to schools of large pelagic fish including many species of shark, barracuda and manta rays. This marine sanctuary is only a three hour boat ride from Pandan Island so ideal for day trips; although live-a-boards are also offered from various locations around the Philippines.
Quick Fact: Apo Reef is a 34-kilometer reef, with a narrow channel running east to west which divides the reef into two lagoon systems (north and south). The Apo Reef Marine Park includes the islands of Binangaan and Caios del Bajo, which are heavily populated by birds.
Review by Mark Attwood and Lee Blundell.
Mark, a PADI instructor, and Lee, a PADI IDC Staff Instructor, did much of the original resort and diving research for this site. You can meet Lee on Boracay where he is Manager of Calypso Diving. Mark is currently enjoying the high life in Kuala Lumpur but will no doubt get his feet wet again sometime soon.
