Top 10 Dive Sites: Sombrero, Anilao
Underwater life, Anilao – Copyright © Gunther Deichmann
My fist dives were at Anilao and despite diving in many places around the country I always have my happiest memories there. Very few people that I knew had ever been diving before and I felt so lucky and blessed to do something that for many was just a dream. I had always been swimming on family holidays but spending time underwater was a revelation. There were so many fish! Unfortunately I don't go back so much to Anilao now but I work not so far away. For me the best things to see in Anilao is the small macro-life like nudibranch, scorpionfish, ribbon eels, and so on. The corals are mostly in good condition and there are thousands of anthias and damsels. Sometimes you can get lucky and when the currents are running see sharks and tuna. The great thing about Anilao is that it is close to Manila and makes diving accessible to lots of people.
